A Sustainable Path: SANY Launches a Micro-Grid Project in Zambia

30/10/2024

On October 28, SANY Silicon Energy’s Micro-Grid project of Ruida Mine officially broke ground in Kabompo, Zambia, marking an important step that SANY has taken in new energy cooperation in Central Africa.

The project aims to build a “photovoltaic, energy storage, and diesel generation” integrated Micro-Grid for the Ruida Mine, ensuring the stability of mine operation while largely reducing the fuel cost.

Dated back to the middle of August, after the signing of the PPA, the two parties decided to take a flexible model primarily based on procurement in China, with occasional local purchases for urgent items. Under the coordination of Mr. Dai Qinghua, chairman of SANY Silicon Energy, the first batch of PV modules, brackets, inverters, and cables were shipped to Zambia from China on September 18, and the first construction team of 12 people arrived on October 27. The project is expected to be completed by December 31.

Based on the strategy of Decarbonization, this project aims to optimize the entire lifecycle management of energy. In the context of Zambia's challenges with traditional hydropower, it will provide robust support for addressing climate change, promoting economic development, and achieving energy diversification.

The launch of this project marks a significant step forward for SANY in the practice of green mining. Looking ahead, it will lay a solid foundation for the green, efficient, and sustainable development of mining operations, while also contributing positively to cooperation between China and Africa in the field of new energy and energy diversification. We look forward to the timely completion and commissioning of this project, which will inject new vitality into energy transition and green development in Zambia and the broader African region.
