Excavator Operation Guide

2016-06-28

This Excavator Operation Guide is meant to provide you with important information and suggestions necessary for using the machine safely and efficiently. Please be sure to read through before operating the machine as failure to observe the precautions given or using any procedures not prescribed may cause a serious accident.
Ensure the Safety of your Workplace
•Before starting the machine, check to see if there are any hazards in your working area. Inspect for overhead power lines, obstructions, holes and drop-offs and note location of underground utility lines before operation.
•Examine the terrain and soil, and decide the best way to do the work.
•Never move excavator before confirming location of blade and direction of travel. Failure to comply could result in death or serious injury.
•Use caution when rotating over the track with the arm fully extended.
•Ensure that the tracks are on firm ground that won’t give way during operation. The machine should sit as horizontal to the ground as possible to reduce the likelihood of it overturning.

Effective Mining Procedures
•Maximum digging force is achieved when the bucket cylinder and the arm cylinder form a 90-degree angle.
•Soil cutting resistance is lowest when the bucket teeth are at a 30-degree angle with the ground.
•When using the bucket to dig, the angle of the bucket rod should be within 45 degrees in the front and 30 degrees at the back. Using the boom and bucket at the same time can improve mining efficiency.
Mining point should not be too far from the center of the excavator as this will affect its machine stability.

Excavation and Rock Digging Procedures
•Avoid using the bucket as a breaker or pile driver. Fragment the rocks before digging to reduce damage to the excavator.
•When necessary, adjust the machine’s position to dig based on the direction of the rock cracks.
•Insert the bucket teeth into the rock cracks, use the bucket rod and bucket digging force for mining, and keep an eye on the bucket tooth to prevent slippage.
•Do not dig under the excavator. Undercutting the machine is dangerous as it may cause a cave-in, resulting in the machine overturning and falling into the excavation.

Operating on a Slope
•Level the work area before beginning work on a slope. Ensure the machine is on flat ground to increase stability and enhance boom and bucket rod coordination.
•Operate as slowly as possible and avoid sudden changes in lever direction.
•Avoid working with the tracks across the slope, which reduces stability and increases the likelihood of the excavator sliding.
Keep boom centered and attachments as low as possible when driving on slopes or in rough conditions.

Loading Procedures
•Locate the dump truck at a position where the swing angle of the machine is minimized to increase work efficiency.
•Load earth from the back of the dump truck, as this allows loading to be done more easily and in larger amounts than from the side.
•Make sure the load is evenly weighted and centered on the lifting chain, and is secured to prevent the load from shifting.
•Do not exceed load capacities when lifting materials.
