How to break in a new crane machine

Crane machines including truck crane, all-terrain crane, rough-terrain crane and crawler crane are used to assemble, disassemble and transport the construction materials in the industrial and civil construction, which are suitable for transportation, farmland, oil field and other industry projects.

Your crane machine undoubtedly has been thoroughly adjusted and tested before shipment. However, initial operation of the crane machine under severe conditions can adversely affect the performance and shorten the service life. Therefore, SANY recommends that you allow a break-in period before full scale operation, which is a very important stage to make each moving part lap completely to prolong the service life of the chassis.

Take SANY STC1000C truck crane for example, the breaking-in works must be done carefully, and you have to make sure that the crane machine is in a normal working status before breaking-in. During the break-in period, the operator must attach great importance to the following precautions:

• Breaking-in trip for the new crane machine is 2000km.

• With a cold motor start, the engine speed can only be increased when it reaches the normal operating temperature.

• The crane machine should run on smooth roads during the process of breaking-in.

• Sudden acceleration, braking of the crane machine must be avoided. Smooth gear selection and clutch operation must be maintained.

• It is a must to select a proper gear before climbing up to prevent the motor running at an idle speed.

• Check the crane machine’s engine oil pressure, the temperature of coolant, gear box, rear axle, wheel hubs, and brake drums. If the temperature is too high, take immediate corrective action.

• Tighten the wheel nuts to required torque after the first 50km traveling and after a wheel is changed.

• Check all bolts and nuts, especially the cylinder cover bolts. Tighten the cylinder cover nuts at the thermal condition after the crane machine has traveled 300km.

• In the 2000km of breaking-in, the engine rotation speed must be limited in 1500rpm.

• All-around maintenance must be adopted for the crane machine after breaking-in. Go to the designated maintenance stations of SANY to do the maintenance.
