SANY RTG port equipment shine at Red Sea Gateway Terminal
16/12/2016

Four units of rubber tyre gantry cranes (RTG) and one ship-to-shore container crane (STS) were purchased to handle large containers and bulk cargo at Red Sea Gateway Terminal in Jeddah, KSA.

Red Sea Gateway Terminal is third and flagship world-class container facility at Jeddah Islamic Port, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's most significant port. On the Red Sea and close to the main east-west shipping routes, the fully automated terminal covers an area of 500,000 square meters and enjoys an annual capacity of 2.0 million TEUs, handling nearly a third of the volume of Jeddah Port.

Four units of RTGs with hoisting capacity under spreader of 41 tons, rail span of 26.5 meters and 16 tires, one STS crane with a SWL of 60 tons, an outreach of 48 meters and an 80'rail span from SANY were custom designed and shipped to Red Sea Gateway Terminal in December, 2014. The RTGs are designed with strict requirement to be able to undertake the handling of 1.8 million TEUs annually.

Numerous leading technologies are adopted to improve the performance of SANY RTG cranes. Four-frequency conversion anti-sway system is equipped so that the spreader can be moved horizontally, longitudinally, or slewed without moving the complete crane, greatly improving the hoisting efficiency. Deviation of the gantry can be calculated by the controller based on the fluctuation of azimuth, thus direction of the gantry is constantly rectified for safe travelling. Automatic laser welding, advanced coating technique, rigorous and systematic test system all contribute to the high quality and reliability of our RTG cranes.

Over the years, SANY RTG cranes showed outstanding performance with high productivity handling millions of TEUs and cargo day and night, and the customer is very satisfied “RSGT is equipped with the world's state-of-the-art cranes and most advanced terminal equipment which has contributed to the upsurge to the previously ‘lower than international average’ crane productivity at Jeddah Islamic port bringing it in line with international standards and beyond.”
